The football world has witnessed a significant loss as the legend Franz Beckenbauer has passed away.

According to the announcement from the family of “The Emperor” Beckenbauer, the German football legend has bid farewell to this world at the age of 78: “We are deeply saddened to announce that Beckenbauer has passed away. He took his last breath surrounded by family. We kindly ask everyone to express their condolences in silence and refrain from asking any questions.”

The Guardian reported that Beckenbauer’s health began to deteriorate significantly from 2015. He battled Parkinson’s disease, memory loss, and underwent heart surgery.

Beckenbauer is regarded as one of the greatest legends in the history of world football. He is one of the few figures who have won the World Cup both as a player and a coach.

Beckenbauer has achieved all the glory in his career.

In addition to his World Cup triumphs, Beckenbauer also made history wearing the Bayern Munich jersey. He and the “Bavarian Giants” clinched the UEFA Champions League title three years in a row from 1974 to 1976.

Beckenbauer started his career as a midfielder. However, he gained fame as a center-back, introducing the sweeper role. Despite playing in a defensive position, this legendary figure won the Ballon d’Or twice (in 1972 and 1976).

Many prominent figures in the football world have expressed their condolences on social media. Former footballer Darren Fletcher wrote: “Beckenbauer deserves special recognition for changing the history of football. Few are as great as Beckenbauer. Rest in peace.” Meanwhile, Gary Lineker conveyed a similar sentiment along with admiration: “Beckenbauer is one of the most elite names to have won every accolade in his career. Rest in peace.”
