“Emilia Pérez” tells the story of the escape journey of Mexican drug lord Manitas. He hires lawyer Rita to help him arrange this escape to avoid charges. To get rid of all evidence, Manitas decides to undergo gender reassignment and start a new life. However, deep down, the drug lord has long wanted to become a woman.

In the film, Selena Gomez plays the wife of the main character, Manitas del Monte (played by Karla Sofía Gascón). Critics have praised the actress’s performance, applauding her ability to portray both the tough and vulnerable aspects of the character.

Selena Gomez revealed that she was immediately drawn to the script. She shared, “It’s a captivating, heartbreaking film that really moved me. I also love the songs in the film. I think they’re truly fantastic.”
