Selena Gomez Admits to Once Pursuing Standards but Abandoned Them After Realizing Their Unreasonableness

At the Time100 Summit, Selena Gomez was present and shared her own experience grappling with today’s unrealistic beauty standards.

“I personally feel there’s a very unrealistic standard when it comes to the beauty world, and it makes me a little sad for my generation,” Selena shared. “And for anyone who looks at something that may have been edited to look beautiful, I just want to break that.”

Also during the conversation, the former Disney star explained why she decided to launch her own cosmetics brand despite not knowing much about makeup; it’s because she hopes people no longer feel the need to adhere to any standards.

“I really just hope makeup becomes a joy for people. I don’t believe that people have to look like a certain standard. I spent so many years doing that, and it drained me. It’s time-consuming,” the singer continued speaking about today’s unrealistic beauty standards.

Selena Gomez’s cosmetics brand was established in 2020. To date, the brand has been valued at $2 billion by Forbes.
