Sinner kicks off 2024 in spectacular fashion with Australian Open Championship.

Not many people believed Sinner could overcome Medvedev when he lost the first two sets in the 2024 Australian Open final. However, with unexpected calmness and unwavering determination, the Italian player orchestrated a miraculous comeback, securing a 3-2 victory after nearly 4 hours of intense competition. The set scores were 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.

This Australian Open title holds significant meaning for Sinner. It marks the first time in his career, born in 2001, that he has triumphed in this tournament and also represents his inaugural Grand Slam title.

Sinner showcases an unyielding spirit against Medvedev.

Sinner becomes the first Italian player to clinch the Australian Open title. Moreover, he joins the ranks of the second ‘Pasta’ champion in the Open Era, following Adriano Panatta (Roland Garros 1976). Furthermore, Sinner stands alongside Dominic Thiem (US Open 2020) as the second player in history to stage a successful comeback after losing the first two sets in a Grand Slam final.

After the match, Sinner shared his emotions, stating, ‘My family watched me play from home. Since I was young, I’ve been able to pursue my passion for sports without feeling pressured. I wish everyone could have that privilege. Of course, I have to thank my family a lot.

Regarding Medvedev, I want to congratulate him on a fantastic tournament. We’ve faced each other in many finals, and I always try to improve my skills after each match. Competing against Medvedev has significantly contributed to my progress.’

Meanwhile, Medvedev extended his congratulations to Sinner, saying, ‘Losing in the final is always painful, but it’s better than not making it to the final. I want to congratulate Sinner for once again proving his capabilities. He fought to the end, and his skills have truly elevated. He has won many tournaments, reached many finals, and I believe this is not the last Grand Slam for Sinner.’
